In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Marketing, there is an exciting area that few competitors with traditional marketing tools compete with, namely Event Management. Here Dynamics 365 Marketing stands out with support for events, sessions, QR codes, check-ins, speakers, sponsors, venues, waiting lists, event portals and much more.
Initially you will be pretty impressed! Dynamics 365 Marketing uses Dynamics 365 Portal by default as a platform for the Event Portal itself. It’s very easy and intuitive to enter event information with its content/data, and then with the button “Go live” end up with the entire Event on the portal. By using Dynamics 365 Portal you also get functionality to register, sign in and manage passwords. Hard to imagine a faster way to “get something up” quickly!
The next question to consider is how to customize the Event Portal so that it meets all your own data and design requirements. Spontaneously you probably think that this is done in Dynamics 365 Portal and the structure that is there with the possibility to develop logic and data access (with eg. Liquid code). Of course fully possible! But the common view today seems to be to take advantage of the opportunity to export the frontend of the Event Portal (which is based on Angular, a framework, with java scripts and css files) and then be able to edit the Event portal in your personal favorite tool, for instance Microsoft Visual Studio.
When you are finished with your portal adjustments, you basically have two choices to make. Either you re-import the Angular structure into Dynamics 365 Portal and continue to host the Event Portal on Dynamics 365 Portals, or you go another way and hosts the Event Portal on your own CMS (Content Management System) and perhaps run the entire Event Portal on your own regular website.
The latter alternative seems to be the first choice today.
